mail

i think it’s sweet to receive a handwritten letter. the latest i received was a snail mailed letter from ayz. Nowadays, the effort you give on writing even a small note can easily be taken for granted especially now that communication is easier. Oo nga, why choose snail mail when you’ve got skype? i miss the days when people weren’t too lazy to pen somebody a letter or a postcard.

i used to write to my friends even if we see each other everyday at school. sweet nothings on scented stationery, practicing our lettering styles, showing off our perfect penmanship. but that’s just us paulinians ;) i remember, my sister used to have a long distance relationship with this guy and they’d secretly send love letters to each other. i never read any of those even if i see them laying around our bed. i know they are private things and i respect that.

she and that guy broke up and she met another guy who is now my brother-in-law. sometime before their wedding, she gave me a bag, a bit smaller than a laptop case, too big to be a clutch, with brown leather trimmings, designed with monogram prints of a brand i dont know because it is now faded and overlaid with mold. i already saw this bag before, she used to get that from the bottom drawer of her study table in some nights. I’m sure she was hiding that from our parents. good thing they don’t really much pry on our things.

the contents of that bag are letters from her past boyfriends. all of which are snail mailed with written and encased on handmade stationery and envelope which gave it that added rustic feel.

can you just imagine how tempting it was for me to open and read them? it was understood that she gave them to me for safe keeping. i was turning eighteen when she gave that too me, and had a boyfriend of my own at that time. it came to me that maybe, she gave those for me to read and for me to learn about how relationships go; how men should address you dearly and with all out devotion. she left me with something that will give me answers to my love related questions since she wont be around much to answer them for me. (though, i haven’t tried to read them at all) She’s the best sister one can have.

She picked me up from our house in Manila last night. She hurriedly handed me a book just after i’ve finished settling my things down my usual corner in their house. Griffin and Sabine; what a lovely novel. :) Atchi bought them somewhere from an online bidding. The third installment is not included so i have to wait for her to have it. It’s quite expensive but it’s a good buy because it is beautifully written and intricately illustrated. You get to open real envelopes with letters inside containing Griffin and Sabine’s extraordinary correspondence. It will give you that forbidden thrill of reading somebody else’s mail.

*gumbleeeeeeeeeeed*
